Work In Progress

2015-05-01 21.43.41-1

Just a quick status update and a picture of some concept sketches for my final uni project I’m working on.

I’ve been very busy lately with university coming to an end soon so I apologise for the lack of posts.  I will update the blog again soon as the project develops further, I’ll also be adding more cool stuff, inspirational nuggets and music bits.  Thanks for your patience!

Be Safe, Be Seen! Volvo LifePaint

Invisible by day and reflective by night under the glare of headlights, Volvo’s LifePaint is an excellent way to be safe and seen.  As a cyclist and driver, I am all too aware of the difficulties and dangers faced during a night ride.  LifePaint is a new solution to improving the safety of cyclists during the dark hours.

To be honest I think it looks pretty cool in this video.  I’m interested to see how users can get creative with LifePaint, transforming their bikes and clothing into eye-catching works of art.

What do you think?  What other applications could LifePaint be applied to?  Let me know in the comments below.  Safe cycling!

Design and Creativity in Cuba

It’s interesting to see how these inventors and designers saw broken products as a sum of parts that could be dismantled and reused.

Building Environments for Creative Teams

Not your average title for an article on building creative teams, I’m sure you’ll agree.  This interesting article covers an often overlooked contributing factor for creative environments, one that many would argue is a key component for encouraging creativity to flourish.

Check it out and let us know what you think in the comments section.

3D Printed Lens Cap

Inner Spring

Last week I ordered an Olympus 35 RC analogue film camera.  I paid a good price but unfortunately it didn’t come with a lens cap or case.  Fortunately for me I have the know-how and technology to design and make my own lens cap.

The image above shows the lens cap without the outer case on.  I designed the sprung locking mechanism so that it could use the resistance of the form and material to lock it into position.

This is the first revision of the lens cap and a few changes need to be made.  Stay tuned, I’ll add more pictures as I develop it further.

Let me know what you think and if there any design improvements I could make.

Where Did the Term ‘Mullet’ Come From?

So apparently the Beastie Boys coined, and definitely popularised the term ‘mullet’ when they released this rather kick-ass track in 1994.
A few people I’ve spoken to say they’re sure they had heard the term before 1994, but either way it further cements the legends that are the Beastie Boys into the history of awesomeness.  So let’s ‘cut the sides, don’t touch the back’ while we throw out hair around to this one.

Do you have any interesting stories about the history of phrases and terminology? Let us know in the comments.
